Adding Invisible Automatic Sound to your Website

build a websiteWe’ve been asked if it’s possible to add automatic sound to your web pages without the visible player and the answer is yes but you should keep in mind that some visitors can find music annoying and if they can’t switch it off, they will simply click away from the page or worse still, they could away from your site altogether. To add automatic sound without the player visible also requires a change to the html code and so should only be attempted if you are a confident Reason8 website builder. You can change the settings of the sound player so that the audio plays automatically and the player, which your website system automatically creates, is hidden.

First you need to add the sound file to your site. Clip Step 3 > Upload files / manage files button on the left > Audio > Browse > Select and Upload your file into your audio library.

Link to your audio file by opening the page (in Edit) on which you’d like your sound to play > set your cursor in position, then click the Yellow Insert Link icon > File > Audio Files > selct from the drop down menu.
The standard code for the audio looks like this:
<p><embed width="270" src="****/music/soundfilename" height="40" loop="false" autostart="0"></embed></p>

The section in bold is the location and name of your audio file. The rest of the code text creates the settings for the player. To change the settings, open your page in editor and then immediately in front of your sound file link type in something like ***********SOUND***********. This will help you to find the right bit of code from a whole page of HTML code, which to non-techies, will look like an enormous amount of gobbledygook. Now click ‘Show HTML’ in your editor bar to reveal the gobbledygook. This is where it can get a little daunting, if you’re not used to html code as the whole page is now presented in code. Look for your sound file marker “ ****SOUND**** ” and find the code which will be the same as you see above apart from the file nameabove.

To make the player start automatically change the text next to where it says autostart from”0” to “true”

To hide the Player – add: hidden="true" after the autostart="true" bit.

There should be a single between these elements. Now click “Show HTML” again and remove the *****SOUND***** marker.

Once you’ve made these changes, your code should look like this:
<p><embed width="270" src="****/music/soundfilename" height="40" loop="false" autostart="true" hidden="true"></embed></p>

Be careful when changing code not to remove any of the other text or symbols. Each character in the code is essential to make it work. Even the removal of a bracket (<) will cause errors in your page.
