Specialist in Automatic Smoke & Fire Curtains.
Smoke Management have been installing automatic fire curtains in and around Dublin. They have achieved a good name for themselves as technically proficient in design and in finding a technical solution to challenges.
Smoke Management Systems are now able to under take any major projects as they are now installing Corner curtains ( without centre side guides ) and insulated fire curtains.
The new standards now being introduced in Europe is that all automatic fire curtains should have an insulation value of 30 minutes and 30 minutes integrity.
WARNING; If you install standard fire curtains then you may not meet any future legislation which demands a 30 / 30 minimal standard.

Fire Curtains are designed to immediately close down when the fire alarm is set off. This should give time for people to escape out of the building. The curtains can hold the fire and smoke back so that the fire brigade are then able to attempt to save the remainder of the building.
The difference between a Fire curtain and a smoke curtain is that the fire curtain will use a pair of side guides in order to retain the fire resistant curtain material from blowing out and letting the flames pass. Hot gases, emitted from a fire, exert a pressure against the barrier.
Smoke curtains are designed as barriers to contain and / or to channel away the highly dangerous toxic fumes generated from a fire as a vital part of a smoke and heat exhaust ventilation system. Smoke curtains do not use side guides.
Fire & Smoke curtains are designed to activate automatically upon receiving the signal from the fire alarm system. The activation may serve one or more purposes;
- To have an immediate action in closing off the passage of smoke and / or fire by providing a fire resistant barrier which would hold back the smoke / fire for a predetermined period of time.
- To create a reservoir in order that the ventilation system is then able to extract the deadly fumes away from the area via the designed channel.
- To descend after a predetermined period of time, thereby creating a longer time span for people to escape.
- To descend partially down, creating a reservoir yet still allowing a means to escape, then to descend completely down once a pre determined time has elapsed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fabric of the smoke curtain will stand up to a fire but only for a short period of time and will not hold back the flames.
The fire curtains are rated as either a 1hr or 2hr fire resistant curtain and may contain stainless steel wire to achieve the desired fire rating.
Our smoke and fire curtains are now using the newly developed control panels which incorporate facilities for delayed or split drop as a standard. These are suitable for airports, shopping malls, schools, hospitals, offices etc.
Each type of fire curtain has to adhere to the specifications provided when the curtain achieved its test standards, BS 476 Part 22. or the new BS EN Standards.
