Matt Ravenscroft Consultant Shoulder SurgeonConsultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Specialist in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

I work at Stepping Hill Hospital which is in Stockport, Cheshire. I also work privately at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle where I am part of the Sports Medicine Clinic, and at the Regency Hospital in Macclesfield.  My areas of expertise are arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and elbow, upper limb joint replacement surgery and sports injuries to the upper limb.

I qualified from St. George's Hospital Medical School in 1995 gaining most of my surgical training in the South West Thames region before moving to Manchester to take up my registrar post in Orthopaedics and Trauma.  I spent the first 3 years of the training programme covering all aspects of Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery, dedicating the last 3 years entirely to Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

My expertise in shoulder surgery  was attained from holding UK upper limb fellowship posts at the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit and the internationally renowned Reading Shoulder Unit under the supervision of Mr Steve Copeland and Mr Ofer Levy. I was then   awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society North American Fellowship.  In North America I spent time in the Mayo clinic (Rochester, Minnesota) the University of Washington in Seattle and Boston, mainly concentrating on upper limb sports injuries.

My practice at Stepping Hill Hospital offers a 'one stop'  clinic.  At this clinic the patients will be seen by myself when I will perform an ultrasound scan of the shoulder if necessary. Patients will also be assessed by a specialist physiotherapist in shoulder disorders. This reduces the patient's time to a diagnosis and then treatment.  If needed, most arthroscopic surgery is performed as a day case procedure.

I am actively involved in teaching and research. I am a faculty member on both national and international shoulder athroscopy and joint replacement courses. I also run a shoulder arthroscopy course for othopaedic surgeons in training.
