There is nothing worse than a showstopper of an equipement failure offshore! Aside from the fact that these situations can cost lives in a worst case scenario, economic costs can reach catastrophic levels! In one instance a part that cost $60 US, eventually cost a diving contractor over $1,000,000. That doesn't include the financial loss the oil company ultimately payed after shutting in a 28" natural gas pipeline!

While some of these occurences are unavoidable, most are. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Good techs are the strongest link in the chain. They can make the differance between getting the job done, or getting it broke off in your ass. The last thing that you need is some broke dick chief engineer with a hardon for dive techs running the show. This mother more than likely has the slightest interest in the dive system, other than it;s one more thing for him to control.
