Why would I add code to my website?

There are many reasons why you may need to add code to your site. Your Reason8 website allows you to easily 'Plug In' code from other sources.

Here are just a few of the many extras you can add to your site

  • Statistics package
  • Videos
  • Hit counters
  • Graphics
  • Flash movies

The code can be added to your pages simply by copying it. There is no need to understand the code or how it works.

The following steps will show you how:

  1. Copy the code by highlighting it and pressing 'Ctrl C' on the keyboard.
     
  2. Log into your website control panel.
     
  3. Click 'Step 3 WebPage's
     
  4. Select to edit the page you want to add the code to
     
  5. Click 'Show HTML' in the editor bar. This displays the code that operates your webpage.
     
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and place your cursor after the last line of code.
     
  7. Press 'Enter'
     
  8. Paste in the code by pressing 'Ctrl V'
     
  9. Click 'Show HTML' to show the text view of your page again.
     
  10. Click 'Save & Preview'

 

Placing code on a specific point on your page

If you are adding videos or graphics then you will want to specify exactly where they appear. The following steps explain how to place it.

For uses such as AdSense, counters or customer tracking we would suggest that you always add the code to the bottom of the page.

  1. Copy the code by highlighting it and pressing 'Ctrl C' on the keyboard.
     
  2. Log into your website control panel.
     
  3. Click 'Step 3 WebPage's
     
  4. In the standard text view place the cursor where you would like the video/graphics etc to go.
     
  5. Type a string of easily identifiable characters such as xxxxxxCODExxxxxxx
     
  6. In the editor bar click 'Show HTML' This displays the code that operates your webpage.
     
  7. Look for the characters xxxxxxCODExxxxxxx
     
  8. Replace the characters by highlighting it and pressing 'Ctrl C'
     
  9. Click 'Show HTML'
     
  10. Click 'Save & Preview'

Note:  Some applications may take a moment or two to show and it may be worth pressing F5 to make sure that you are viewing the very latest version of your page.
