Default Changing ownership of domain name and website

I am looking to sell my business and website to a third party. Could you please tell me how I would go about changing the owner of the site and domain name.

Many Thanks

It is possible to change ownsership of the website and domain. To change ownership of the name we would need the following:

From you:
A letter stating that you wish to transfer ownership of the site to a third party, to include:
• Full domain name/s
• Their contact details including telephone number.
• Statement confirming that you are responsible for the account until the transfer is complete.

From them:
A letter stating that they wish to take over the ownership of the website, to include:
• Full domain name/s
• Their contact details including telephone number.
• Statement confirming that they have read and understood our terms of service and are happy to be bound by them. Build a website | build your own website | setting up a website : terms

Once both letters have been received we will contact the new owners to confirm the details and to take the card details that future payments will be taken from. It is at this point that we will also arrange how future email addresses will be delivered.

If they intend to retain the old domain name then you will also need to change the name it is registered in.

If the domain is a .co.uk you will need to contact Nominet (controllers of all .co.uk names) they will send you an email which asks you to set up a password with them. This will give you direct access to the name and enable you to transfer it should you wish to. For more information please go to Registrant Online Services FAQ

To change a .com name you will need to contact the company you purchased the name from and they will advise on the process.

If we have purchsed the name on your behalf then get in touch and we will check the status of the name and advise on how this will be transfered. With a .com name there is a charge for change of ownership of around £15

We hope this is helpful,
