Default Changing IPS TAG

What do my current hosts mean when they request your TAG ? What does that allow them to do with that information?

To answer your question there are basically three levels of changes that can be made for a domain name.

The highest is to change the IPS TAG or “TAG”. This moves the control of your website name from one company to another. By changing the TAG you would be moving your name away from the company you bought if from and be passing admin control to another domain registrar.

The next level is Nameservers, this means the company you bought the name from remains the same but you are simply directing it to where your website is.

The last level is to split the name so that one company can provide you with email (MX record) and the other can provide you with your website (A record).

We always suggest changing the Nameservers, as it is simple non evasive and you retain the maximum control over your name. Unless you're particularily unhappy with the service you receive I would suggest contacting them and claryfing that it is just the Nameservers you want to change.

We hope this is helpful,
