We get a number of calls each week from concerned clients because their website is down.

In around 98% of cases this is due to the domain name on the website expiring.

If your domain name was registered by Reason8 then we are responsible for ensuring the name is renewed. This is done automatically and well before the due date.

However if the name was purchased from a third party then you will need to contact them on an annual / bi-annual basis to renew the name. If the name is not renewed then although the site is live it will not be visible.

There is a free tool available to check the details of your domain name, at www.dnstools.com . This will show you information such as such as the expiry date, company it is registered with and to whom.

Once the name has expired you have 6 weeks in which to renew it before it is placed back on the open market. This means that anybody can buy the name and you will not be able to retreive it again.
