Most of the images on websites are taken by professionals. Which usually mean they have a lot of experience or training in photography. Not to mention the latest equipment.
However there are basic steps you can take to improve your images.
1. If you are selling items always display them against the same background, and preferably white. Practice with lighting and angle and when you find something that works repeat for your other images.
2. If your items are small consider making a display lightbox to really show them off.
3. Use a photo editing package to add trim and crop or add effects. Photoshop is the best but costly or you could try free versions such as paint.net or Illustrator or Coral Draw.
