First the bad news : Yes,it is time consuming and no, there are no guarantees.

Next the good news: It is the same for everyone - but we have already added you to several directories and created numerous links to your
site.
Not all links are the same and there are a couple of things that you should make sure when trying to get them:
- try and get links from sites that have similar content to your own. - If you sell tennis balls then a link from a banana seller is not very useful.
- try and get a link from a page that has a high page rank - to view a site's page rank - install google toolbar (easy to find in google!) watch out is becomes addictive !
[ A final point: Don't forget that it all depends on how competitive your phrase is too. If you are trying to get found for "tennis coaching" this is more difficult than "tennis coaching Surrey" as you can imagine there are a lot more tennis coaches in the entire Internet than just in Surrey. ]
