Default sale notification not received

An online customer has emailed me to tell me he has ordered a book and paid using Paypal and yet I have had no email from my website informing me of the order. Is everything working correctly?

When a customer places an order you should receive two emails, one from PayPal (if they are your merchant bank)and the other from the shopping cart. I would be very surprised if an order was placed and neither email was received. I would suggest you check your PayPal account to see if a payment was taken, and confirm that the email address they have for you is correct.

Then log into your shopping basket and check that the email addresses in your shopping basket are correct. You can also see here a transaction history, which will tell you if any transaction has gone through on the account. If you have taken money in the past it would be safe to assume that the shopping basket is working ok. You can however test it by doing a dummy transaction in the control Panel of Mal’s ecommerce.

If you cannot find a record of the transaction in either the shopping cart or PayPal then I would suggest that the customer has in fact not completed the process correctly and be very cautious at sending out any goods.

We hope this is helpful,

If the customer goes to checkout on your cart but doesn't pay through paypal properly, it should still be recorded in Mal's ecommerce, and nothing will show up in your paypal account. (which seems correct).
I had this once, contacted the customer & they ordered it a day later!
I think this is a good tool, it gives you a second chance at getting the sale, and may also be helpful in that it's telling you that you may have to improve /alter the offer to ensure you get the sale in future.
